GEEKS GUIDE TO THE WIRELESS WORLD

SILENT DISCO HOW DOES IT WORK?

Silent Discos are a party phenomenon that hit the world of festivals, club land and house parties but how does it work????

Well the kit transmits on a UHF frequency used by radio stations, TV Channels, mobile phone networks etc. But the transmitters used are weaker than these signals so normally travel around 100 meters to 200 meters (new ones with 500m range are now available) in all directions. This includes through ceilings, walls, floors and windows, so you can have a house party with people in different rooms all listening to the music or if you have a night club you can run 2 rooms with one silent but the music from the other room playing through the headphones too.

The transmitters are either plugged into the power supply or are fully charged for an event with the rechargeable version. The audio is connected through a 3.5 mm jack connection from the transmitter into which ever music source your using, from a lap top, iPad, iPhone or audio mixer (into the master out with RCA connectors). Once alls connected up and the music is playing the transmitters will send the music out to the headphones.

Original wireless headphones only had one channel but with advancements this has rise to up to 4 or even more. Each channel is on a slightly different frequency so they don’t clash and people wearing the headphones can jump between the channels with a simple click of a button on the headphones. This is great because if you don’t like what’s on one channel you can change it, also if you have a party with a mixture of music tastes and genres you can set up playlists to suit, or the DJ’s can play to their crowds tastes but all can share the same dance floor.

The headphones also are evolving with bigger speakers and comfortable styles BUT the best ones (well in my opinion) have LED lights flashing to the beat of the music in the headphones that also show up which channel your on making it easy to find people dancing to the same tunes as you to share a moment or showing up that your friends on a different channel when you know a track they like is coming on the other channel so you can get them to change.

Headphones can be powered 2 ways, one with batteries these last up to 20 hours when using good AAA alkaline batteries, or the other option being in built lithium batteries that can be recharged these last around 8 hours a little less if you have the LEDs activated on them. Recharging time takes around 3 hours.

I love the equipment and work with people to make the next generation of headphones better than before but still with the main goals to let everyone who’s wearing them LOVE MUSIC TOGETHER.
